Hi, I'm Catholic...

And over the past 24 hours, EVERYONE has been relentlessly mocking Catholicism...myself VERY much included. And it has struck me that this is the ONLY faith where such mockery can occur without being marked for death, forced to give on-air apologies, sponsors pulling out, or fired. Why is that? I'm not being funny when I say I think one of the best parts of being Catholic is that I can mock it without fearing for my life; it's a far LESS INSANE religion in this sense. There's just SO much hypocrisy about the whole mocking one religion while being SUPER DUPER SENSITIVE AND PC toward others. These other religions are JUST as intolerant, if not more so, of women and gays...and there's a good deal of molestation cover-ups in them, too. I guess the Catholic Church just has a higher visibility in many ways -- networks don't cut into programming to devote hours to unveiling the new Head Rabbi or whatever -- and with more visibility comes more criticism. So the media can be blamed...and the Catholic Church itself, with all its EVITA-like production numbers...so much GLITZ & GLAMOUR! But it's an interesting ongoing double standard to ponder. I think ALL religions should be, um, questioned.

At LONG last...my 1st Lacoste shirt!

After years -- YEARS! -- of yearning for one, but never quite being able to pay $89.50 for a damn polo shirt, I finally gave in and forked over the cash for a black Lacoste polo. After trying 3 different sizes on. In 3 different colors. Yes, it's a momentous moment in my young life. Oh, and the best part? I only paid $64 and change. BOOYAH! That's the REAL reason I finally checked this off my Life List tonight. Thank you, Jesus, for the random 25% coupon in the mail, combined with a $3 bit of stupid luck. Oh, I can't WAIT to prance around like a preppy prick in my Lacoste shirt this summer!

RIP, Remington Electric Razor

You've had a long life. Since the week I went off to college. Bought you at K-Mart. You have served your -- for me -- rather meager purpose well. You made me a man and I thank you for that.

December smells like a rose!

This is absolutely the longest I've gone without writing on here since I started this thing. Almost three months, kids. Yeah, who am I kidding...this blog's relevance is LONG gone. It fulfilled a need during a certain time of my life, and I'm happy for that. I'm also proud of a lot of things I've written here...if I could only find them. OY, the task of sifting through all of these! But it's been almost six years since I began writing here; the first three are probably where I did some of my best writing, and certainly where I did my MOST writing. After Facebook came into the picture in the middle of 2008, though, my productivity level on here steadily declined. This is not me closing the book on this blog; that may come some other time, but not now. I'm just saying that I'm finally OK with not giving a shit about this site anymore...for the time being...in this forum. If I can focus my ADD-riddled brain, I may take the name and concept elsewhere; who knows. But why write where no one is looking? Well, actually, I can certainly still use this as a place where people can view my precious words from the past. ANYWAY...so the title of this post refers to not only it being the first of December, but that I've spied several solitary roses blooming this week. I've seen this other Decembers...always very odd. New life...in the darkest month.

East Coast EARTHQUAKE!

Today was a first. Never felt an earthquake before. It was a 5.8 centered in Mineral, VA. Entire East Coast felt it...apparently because it was such a shallow quake..."just" 3.7 miles beneath the earth's surface. The rumbling and swaying lasted for what seemed an eternity...probably only 90 seconds, tops. Pretty amazing experience.

My heart always breaks a little...

...when the first Chrissy-less THREE'S COMPANY ep rolls around on TV Land. It's like losing a friend.

It's RESTAURATEUR...no N!

Don't feel like a dumbass; I just learned this, too...and I consider myself a word and spelling genius. What the HELL?! Screw that, I'm still pronouncing it with an N...
